“Why should I go to the doctor? I’m never sick” is something that I have heard many times. People often say this for many reasons. It could be that the person is afraid to go to the doctor. Other reasons may include a bad experience in the past or having a very busy lifestyle. Today, I am going to discuss 3 reasons that you should go to the doctor even if you are feeling well.
One example of this is hypertension, which is often times referred to as “the silent killer”. Many people have high blood pressure and don’t know it simply because they don’t always have any symptoms that make them feel abnormal. Hence, having your blood pressure amongst many other health conditions checked by a doctor can literally be lifesaving.
Our family name can be known for many incredible contributions to mankind. However, it can also mean that we may be more prone to certain health ailments just because of our bloodline. For example, if many of the women (and in some cases men) in your family are known to get breast cancer in their late 20’s or early 30’s, it would be wise to establish a relationship with a doctor to determine an appropriate screening schedule for your specific case even if you aren’t having any symptoms.
There are many conditions that don’t have a typical presentation. Headaches don’t always mean high blood pressure, weight gain doesn’t always mean an issue with your thyroid, etc. Therefore, even a routine annual exam or “check-up” can prove to be essential in getting your health questions answered and getting appropriate screenings done to keep an eye on your health.
There are other reasons that one should go to the doctor, but these are 3 highlights to consider the next time you or someone you know tries to talk him or herself out of a visit to the doctor. =)
